Late-Breaking Abstracts – SAR 2027
Late-Breaking Submission Deadline
January 4, 2027
Oral Presenter Confirmation Deadline
January 15, 2027

Share Highly Meritorious & Timely Research

The SAR 2027 Late-Breaking Abstract call is designed for highly meritorious and timely research that was not available or complete at the time of the original submission deadline. We welcome research on acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM) that offers new and significant findings.

Late-breaking abstracts will be accepted from November 2, 2026 through January 4, 2027. Abstracts are reviewed and notifications sent on a rolling basis — submitting early means receiving your decision early.

Rolling Review & Early Notification: Abstracts submitted before the January 4, 2027 deadline are reviewed as they are received. If you submit early, you will be notified early — an important advantage for international presenters who may need additional time to arrange travel.

How Late-Breaking Abstracts Are Presented

Late-breaking abstracts will be assigned to one of two presentation formats by the Scientific Review Committee based on scientific merit and fit with the program.

Oral Presentation
Oral Abstract Spotlight
A 4-minute oral presentation followed by 1 minute of Q&A, delivered to the full conference audience. Oral Abstract Spotlights are a featured part of the SAR 2027 program and offer significant visibility for your work. In-person attendance is required. Oral presenters must confirm their participation by January 15, 2027.
Poster Presentation
Poster Presentation
A displayed poster during Thursday, April 29, 2027 with presentation made during the poster reception Thursday evening, with dedicated time for attendee engagement and discussion. Select posters will be invited to present a future SAR webinar to SAR's global audience.

What to Include in Your Abstract

Please review all requirements carefully before submitting. Incomplete submissions may not be reviewed.

  • ✓Abstracts must report original research on acupuncture or Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM) that is highly meritorious and timely — research that was not available at the time of the original October submission deadline.
  • ✓All abstracts must include a 1–2 sentence lay summary relevant to clinical practice.
  • ✓Abstracts will be reviewed by SAR's Scientific Review Committee and assigned to either a brief oral or poster presentation.
  • ✓Conference registration is required for all presenters.
  • ✓In-person attendance is required for all presentations.
  • ✓Oral presenters must confirm their participation by January 15, 2027.
  • ✓Select posters will be invited to present a future SAR webinar to SAR's global audience.
Submitting your abstract early is encouraged. Abstracts are reviewed on a rolling basis, and notifications are sent as decisions are made — well before the January 4, 2027 deadline. Early submission is especially beneficial for international attendees who may need additional time to arrange travel.

Research Topics We Welcome

Late-breaking abstracts are invited for research on acupuncture and TEAM across a wide range of topics, including:

  • Clinical research (efficacy, effectiveness, safety, implementation)
  • Basic science (mechanisms, physiology, neuroimaging)
  • Research methodology (study design, outcomes, biostatistics)
  • Herbal medicine, moxibustion, Tai Chi, Tui Na, Qi Gong, and other TEAM modalities
  • Education, care innovation, and clinical delivery models

Priority will be given to submissions that relate to the 2027 conference theme: "From Needles to Networks: Advancing Whole Person Health Through Acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine."

Submissions from individuals from historically underrepresented groups — including racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds — are especially encouraged.
