By donating to the Society for Acupuncture Research, you are helping to further SAR's mission and objectives:

Mission statement:
To advance patient care, we promote scientific evaluation into acupuncture and allied therapies, as well as dissemination and implementation of these findings

Our objectives are:

  • To advance research methods for acupuncture and allied therapies
  • To identify the mechanisms underlying clinical effects
  • To inform knowledge gaps and future research directions
  • To contribute to the dissemination and implementation of research findings
  • To support the next generation of researchers, academic clinicians and educators

To donate specifically to the MacPherson East Asian Medicine INnovative SCHolar (MENSCH) fund,  choose the "in memory of" field and input Hugh's name so that we know to direct the donation to this fund.

Hugh MacPherson was a prior SAR Board member who died from pancreatic cancer and left a legacy to the world-wide acupuncture community that could well inspire verse after verse of a Scottish ballad.

The song would tell of the wondrous breadth of his research contributions, from the laboratory to the real-world; from the ‘n=1’ design to the mega-data analyses of the Acupuncture Trialists’ Collaboration; from the STRICTA guidelines for reporting clinical trial results to his presentations on the BBC and at the House of Lords urging wider acceptance of acupuncture as a healthcare option.

The ballad would include verses telling of Hugh’s many awards and honors (honours as he would correct us), culminating in his being named the UK’s first Professor of Acupuncture Research, at the University of York.

DONATE TODAY and help us to fund programs and initiatives in Hugh's memory and honor or to the field of acupuncture research by supporting SAR's mission.

The Society for Acupuncture Research is a 501(c)3 organization (Tax ID#: 52-1930674) operating on a very lean budget, limited staff time, and with the help of dedicated volunteers. No goods or services are being provided in exchange for your donation. Your donation may be tax deductible.
